Continuing our thanks to those who helped make the West Elm event a success! Cathy of cwjdesigns really came to the rescue! By the night of the event, everyone except team captain Shelly (MirthfulMary) either had a conflict or got sick, and Cathy stepped up to the plate to help out.

Cathy lives in Ponte Vedra and is a regular visitor to our team chat thread. Here's a little more about Cathy from her profile page: "I love the endless variety of beads - colors, shapes, textures... Coming up this week are a few special thank you posts for those who really pulled off the West Elm event. First up is Jennifer Janeiro. Jennifer was the behind-the-scenes queen who really pulled everything together. She was the cheerleader, the "we need you!" mascot and the true rallying force behind the event. Unfortunately, after all her hard work, she got food poisoning and wasn't able to attend the night of the event. But thanks to all the effort she put in beforehand, the event was still a great success.

Jennifer enjoys graphic design, drawing, painting, jewelry making, and many other various crafts. She loves the creative process, experimenting, and trying new things. Her goal is to always be evolving, changing, and learning how to be better. She also enjoy movies old and new, and reading mainly, yep!, fantasy books.

West Elm + Etsy Event 12/1/11

Happy Holidays everyone!

Last night was the big event as West Elm. It was a blast! A huge thank you goes out to Cathy of CJW Design and Bev of Classy Cook Aprons who attended the event with my grand-daughter and me. Also to Jennifer Janiero who put things together behind the scenes but ended up in the hospital the day before the event with food poisoning. Jennifer had her sister bring the many wonderful items that were donated for the bags to West Elm and we stuffed them just before the event started. The bags were very well received and I hope many of you get a response.

This event not only highlighted Etsy and West Elm, it was for the benefit of Girls Inc. A local charity that supports girls in Jacksonville. The ornaments were made and hung on a tree and donations taken to help buy ornaments for these girls to decorate a tree and enjoy the holidays.

I'm including a few pictures, one of a young participant that had just hung up her ornament, a couple of participants at play and one of the bag that your contributions were in to be distributed. We did give away all of the bags!

I sincerely hope that if we have an opportunity to be a part of another event like this that more of you will be able to actively join in the fun. It's always great to meet the people that are interested in Etsy and to talk about your shop and what you do.

We have been invited to be a part of the special holiday event at West Elm here in Jacksonville on December 1. The Weather Outside Has Been Frightful!

Like the line from the Christmas song - but this is almost Valentine's Day! There has definitely been some crazy weather going on all over the world, but NFCR team members know the value of these days and staying busy with their crafts! Taking pictures for our listings is a bit of a challenge, but it gives us more time indoors to make the creations.

There has been constant growth to our team for the last several months and we are now up to 58 members! Welcome to everyone new! We've also begun to lose a couple as job changes and family issues have arisen that cause us to have to move or make changes. I wish everyone that has had to move on the best of luck as you settle into your new jobs, homes, towns, etc.

We are planning a lunch time get together for any team member that can make it. I will have more details soon and will post them as they are available. This is just a chance to meet each other face to face, enjoy some time to talk and get to know each other. Hopefully this will be an event we can do three or four times yearly. There is also some talk of participating together or in groups at some festivals and such. So if you are interested in selling your wares this way, please be sure to express that interest in our team thread.

It's Christmas!

Oh the joys of being a young one! After a whole year of waiting, Santa is making all of the final preparations to come to each of our homes and deliver the special things we have been wishing for! Yeah!

And for those of us, just a little older, we're still excited to see Santa come for a visit, but on a whole different level! The twinkle in our little one's eyes is really a reflection from our own as it gives us so much joy to share our love with them.

Our team continues to grow and the members we have are sharing so many good ideas and business tips from their own experiences, it makes me proud of each of you. Many of us have already turned our business preparations to the Valentine's market. We've entertained the idea of a meet up in the spring and I'm looking for a place to make that happen. Several people are discussing the idea of attending art market/craft shows either as teammates or as a large team. And, of course, there have been many of you in treasuries and a few have been blog highlights! This is definitely a wonderful team and each of you should pat yourself on the back for the contributions you have made in these last weeks!

From all of the reports that I've heard, everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving. Several people took trips and enjoyed family, while others stayed home and had more peaceful events. Either way, we're a blessed group and are enjoying getting to know each other more and more as the weeks pass!

This is a weekly event on Thursday! Alli started out featuring only team members and there are only a couple of us left. That means those shops had a sale and the only way to get back in there and get another sale is to buy your way back in. It's a fantastic way to do your Christmas holiday shopping, support the Etsy handmade movement and your shop! Get involved, support your teammates, click and comment every time a new BNR is up. Let the world know that team NFCR has fantastic items to be purchased, that we support each other and that we're here to stay!!

One of the ideas that was suggested by a team member was to have a topic just for our treasury listings and new items. I will be starting that today.

Another suggestion was to add our shops/blogs/FB/Flickr info to our signature. In this way we can visit each other and get to know more about each other and the crafts, art or supplies that we provide. I think this is an excellent idea! In fact, the first person to send me a note letting me know they read five other people's blog and a very brief idea of what you read, will be receiving a nice little gift!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Well can you believe this week is Thanksgiving! Another year is flying by us!

Our team had such a great week and I wanted to highlight just a few things. First we had two members change their shop names. I know, I know, you can't change shop names, they actually opened a new shop and have, or are in the process of, moving their items from the old to the new. Those two are fsumu1978 became MeSweet and Allie9632 has become FlyBirdieStudio. So watch out for those two!

We also had two new members join us. The first is NouveauNiche and the second is ThePunkyMonkey. Please take a minute to visit their shops and welcome them to the team.

If you haven't noticed that Duckie's avi now shows she's a leader, I wanted to point it out! Duckie works hard as our communications officer and Alli and I agreed it wasn't right to not appoint her as a leader, so we did! We asked first, of course, and Duckie accepted.

Mid November Is Upon Us

Hello friends!

As I write you today, it is November 15th. Another month almost gone. Next week will be Thanksgiving! Most of us are busy preparing our shops for the Black Friday/Cyber Monday event, as well as making notes of the shops we want to visit.

We're going to start highlighting team members in the next few weeks, so keep your eyes out for a note from me regarding questions - and then watch the blog to see when you are highlighted!

I'd like to send kudos to Alli for taking the time to look at each of our shops and remind all of us to clean up in our shops and be aware of following the team rules. I know we get complacent about having done a profile and forget that there are changes from time to time that our readers need to know about. Others enjoy reading a little about the person they are buying from and keeping your shop profile current helps them to connect with you.

It's Been A Busy Week

Hello Everyone!

It's been an event filled week for everyone. We've begun revitalizing the team, hearing from old friends, changing the team set-up via Etsy reorganization, the weather got cold! and Kelly finally got well! :O)

Revitalization included contacting all team members and letting them know of the need to hear from them. Then some of them started chatting in the team forum again, which is very nice. The Etsy reorganization included changing how Teams are run, with more abilities placed on the team leader, now called Captain. Anyone wishing to join the team now, can be approved and added by the Captain. We also have people under the Captain, called Leaders, who have some responsibilities and privileges as well. All of those positions have not been assigned, but we will be adding them soon!

We will continue our forum thread as before, but as of December 1, it will be moved into the teams area. The conversation will remain public, but we now have the option of have any needed conversations, as a team, be kept private. Please check in both places for this month.

As a reminder, if you wish to be a team member, you must have an active Etsy shop and live in the North Florida area. I had to remove a couple of people because they lived far away?? As I don't know everyone who has been a member of the team previous to my joining, I invited everyone who had a shop listed. However, if I don't hear from you by Thanksgiving, I will remove you from the team roster and if you wish to rejoin, you will have to ask. I have also cleaned up our Flickr account. There are now only pictures from members of the team included there. I encourage all of our members to visit and add pictures each week.

We got a serious cool down in the weather, which was a welcome change! I think most of us enjoyed it.

New Month - Revitalized Team!

Welcome to November in North Florida with the Craft Revolution Team! We are a talented group of crafters and superb suppliers. We've been undergoing some leadership changes, checking in with members and saying hello to each other again.

We aren't going to go overboard with ideas and goals currently. Etsy Admin is revamping the team process and all of us are busy readying our shops for the holiday rush. I would like to take this time to say "THANK YOU!" to a few people though. KELLY WARREN deserves a big pat on the back for having kept the administrative side of the team going, single handedly, for quite some time and she's been working with Alli and myself regarding the transitions needed. DUCKIE has continued to pull us together by keeping the forum thread alive. She's been dependable and cheerful no matter what was going on around her. Thank you ladies!

One of our newest members, Alli, has been very busy organizing the variety of information that has been passed on to us, contacting members about becoming active again and being supportive all around. So let's take advantage of a clean start and move forward now!

As always, if you are included in a treasury, please share that with us. If you create the treasury and include fellow team members, I'll send you a little something to say thanks for sharing the team spirit!

A New Home For Etsy Teams

Etsy is building a new site feature called Etsy Groups to replace Teams. The data is being migrated to the new and improved system. Etsy Admins seem really pumped up for this to launch soon. There will be announcements in the Etsy community forums and Etsy blog, to stay in the loop.

If you have visited our current thread, by now you have heard we have 2 more volunteers with Shelly leading. I haven't confirmed this so for now I am thinking out loud. Hopefully she says YES! We are updating the membership roster and would love to hear from you. Basically we would like everyone to sign in somewhere Etsy thread, Facebook, Flickr or here on the blog at least once a month. If you can't make it don't sweat it. I am still in the process of contacting everyone so please be patient with me. A good team roster with current links will help us stay together. By providing the list to Shelly will help her during this transition. SO PLEASE let us know if you want to stay on and provide your links to stores, blogs, facebook and whatever else. If you could leave them on current team thread it would help me greatly as I just copy and paste. Thanks guys!!!

A couple people mentioned they never go to the yahoo group, so please share your thoughts on to keep it up or just the thread and blog.

Meet North Florida Craft Revolution member Janice Richardson of IdeasInc!

Tell us about yourself and your inspirations: I live with my husband and two spoiled cats in beautiful & charming Neptune Beach, FL. I make jewelry at night and on weekends, while by day I am the activities director at a large retirement community.

My husband and I lived in the Washington D.C. area for 10 years, but moved back to Florida many years ago, as we could not resist the call of the sea.

I am inspired by so many things: nature, color, texture, animals, vintage items, Asian art, retro 50's art and advertising, and the sea. The list goes on and on and on. I find myself going to sleep at night, thinking of the next piece of jewelry I want to design. I’m always jotting notes and little designs on whatever small piece of paper might be handy at any given moment. It's an obsession!

I like to consider my pendants miniature pieces of art for your neck. I often use my original illustrations, or my original photos. Other times I use vintage postcards or advertisements, and add my own graphics to create miniature collages.

How long have you been involved in crafting? Where do you learn your crafting skills? I’ve been dabbling in the arts for many years. I cannot remember a time when I was not fascinated by all things art-related. My interest grew when I was selected to do several illustrations for my high school’s senior year poetry book, as well as my college's senior year poetry book. My BA degree is in art (advertising/design) but I was only in that field for a few years.

What's the biggest lesson you've learning since you began selling on Etsy? I think the biggest lesson I've learned from Etsy, is not to try to design items that appeal to the masses.... or are the "objects de jour!" Go with your instincts and your heart, and design what appeals to you. You'll find that others will appreciate your work if you appreciate it too!! I've also learned, from Etsy, how helpful other artists are. I love our team and I love the forums. If you need help with anything, others are there to assist you immediately. I also so enjoy being able to chat with people from all over the world. Etsy is definitely an international community.

This one is sure to draw attention. The size of the pendant is 1 1/4" X 2 1/2", and it is very lightweight. I placed my original vintage inspired collage over a lovely piece of brass. I added a unique, small clear acrylic piece over the photo to protect it and add depth. The pendant comes with an 18" cord. If you would like a different sized cord, just let me know.

This tote was created in support of my campaign for 'ONE LESS' to end up in our landfill. Made with blue/white plarn (plastic yarn) compliments of WalMart, it is very strong and stretches so you can use it for groceries, college kids for books, going shopping, etc.. You'll be amazed at how much it really can hold - I made one for me and I sure was surprised. Additional feature - 9" button strap for closure.This is a one-strap tote and you'll find most of totes/bags I make are one-strappers. I've been told that one-strap is easier on the shoulders and I'll be honest, I don't have much luck with two straps staying on my shoulder. Undoubtedly, one strap is always falling off.
